Jeanne Lessenich (*1942 in Remagen, † 9 May 2017) was a German queer trans* artist, illustrator, and painter. She studied painting and graphic design from 1959 until 1962 at the Kölner Werkschulen, first working as a layout artist and then as an Art Director at various advertising agencies, among which the Düsseldorf based cult agency GGK. She additionally worked as an illustrator for Playboy, Spiegel, Bunte, Zeit Magazine, and FAZ Magazine. Study trips with multiple longer stays abroad led her primarily to the US and Japan. From 2003 onwards, she regularly participated in exhibitions.
Aside from her work as an artist, Jeanne Lessenich also wrote the books Nun bin ich die ewig junge Hirschkuh oder der Ajilee Mann (Now I am that Eternally Young Hind or the Ajilee Man), Mit den Zähnen am Zweig (With Teeth Bit into a Twig) as well as Die transzendierte Frau. Eine Autobiografie. (The Transcended Woman. An Autobiography.)
Jeanne Lessenich died on 9 May 2017. Together with her images, we will continue her fight for acceptance and equal rights.
