Clear lines, geometric shapes, and colourful colours all unite to make a clear statement. That is the creative world of the Stuttgart illustrator Frank Maier. His reduced visual worlds play with distance and abstraction; the beholders are confronted with the core, the message of his illustrations. There is nothing to distract the eye, his clear line prohibiting virtually each superfluous attachment.
“Reducing form, colour, and line to intriguing eye-catchers, that is my work method”, says Frank Maier. “During this process of reduction, it is however very important to me to understand the figure in its original shape and complexity, doing its character justice. This is why I consider it necessary for digital work to have a sound artisanal background.”
Frank Maier studied at the Independent Art School in Stuttgart. After a short time working as a permanent employee, he noticed that he valued his creative freedom more. Since then, he has been illustrating for various publishing houses, newspapers, and magazines as a freelancer with a predilection for editorial design.
