The artist Felix Kindelán was born in 1992 in Berlin, with Cuban roots. Growing up in the German capital, the autodidact developed a strong interest for the arts at an early age. In his youth, he was part of the Berlin graffiti scene, at the same time devoting his talents to classical painting. He experimented with the most diverse materials and surfaces to express his ideas through, increasingly shifting his focus to painting.
Portraits are at the heart of his work. They have the ambition to develop strong expression with few means, triggering feelings as well as contradictions in the beholder. By now, the range of stylistic expression in his work reaches from realistic painting and drawing to abstraction. The experiences that Felix Kindelán gained as a trained graphic designer also help shape his more recent work. Kindelán is increasingly moving beyond the pure nature of the figure, rather abstracting it and placing it into a contrast with graphic structures and fields.
The artist currently lives and works in Basel.
